Japanese nuclear reactor explodes- How could this affect the Earth?

In the case of Japan, even if the worst happens, it wouldn't be as dangerous for the environment and people as Chernobyl. The small leakages that happened until now aren't that serious at all. The radiation coming from there stay there and most of it disappears after several minutes.
