Is it harder in today's NHL for players to get motivated?

Loyalty is two way street, nowadays most organizations treat most players like expendable commodities so why should they be inclined to remain loyal? Your "franchise players" do have a tendency to stick around. For instance I could see Ovechkin staying in Washington for his career, Crosby in Pittsburgh, Iginla in Calgary, etc...
